Do you love burlesque, or consider yourself burlesque-curious? Try The Crucible’s new exercise class, Burlesque Fitness for Any Body, Tuesdays at 6 pm with Melissa.
Like Zumba or line-dancing, Burlesque Fitness features a set of dance moves that the instructor calls out during the music. The goal is to keep moving for the full 45 minutes, rather than to memorize a single routine. We begin with a slow-paced warmup song that introduces most of the moves, and then we’ll Charleston and shimmy our way through a mixture of faster-paced and slow/sultry songs, ending with a cooldown. The routine is the same every week, so the more you come, the better you’ll know the choreography.
Don’t worry about messing up, not knowing the moves, or not having dance training: the whole point of Burlesque Fitness for Any Body is to feel sexy and powerful in whatever body you bring to the studio. Allbodies will be welcomed and celebrated. Modifications will be offered for those with common challenges, and Melissa will be happy to work with you to help with your individual body’s needs.
Jazz shoes or bare feet are recommended. Since this is a burlesque class, feel free to wear athletic clothes or fishnets, dance heels, scrunchies or cat eyeliner—or be like your instructor and go for a combination of all of the above. Just make sure to have a water bottle handy.
